SmolderWorks

I didn't really do this for Outsider Art, but I haven't posted anything in a while. Also, this sort of coincided with this past week's theme (shadows) in that it is shadow-y and the children are overshadowed by a rather dreadful circumstance.

This picture is based on a sketchy story idea that I've had for a while about three children that are kidnapped under unusual circumstances and brought to a strange island to work in a sweatshop run by a diabolical smoke-belching robot named Mr. Milcom (pictured above, center background). Alarmingly, Mr. Milcom takes all the "lazy" children (those caught trying to escape) and heats them in ovens until they turn to coal- his own personal fuel.

I've attempted to capture the children's plight in this image. Enjoy!

Magic...

Howdy folks, Alexandria here making her first post. Soooo this weeks theme was magic... And well, this is the first thing that came to mind. Not very magical, but more of the opposite. As one might have guessed this is the UI room, and this picture depicts the trauma Amber and I suffer through on a day to day basis at the hands of the cold and calculating programmer Chris.

He likes to cut our dreams to bits and break our hopeful out look.... fun times.

Techie

Ok, this is indefensibly late, but I've been starting on weird days and ending on weird days since I started doing this blog. In other words, this should be no big surprise.

This is for the "technological gadget" week. This started out as an attempt at speed painting, and ended up becoming a somewhat personal project that I probably spent waaay too much time on. If you are an HVS employee who knows how to speed paint, I beg you, help me. I love details too much to let them go.

I also want to use this forum to thank James for the "rocksock" recommendation. It is freakin' awesome, and I feel cooler just for wearing it. Plus it's helped me knock off some time with my drawings. Killer!

Allergy Season.

Here's my offering for the "Purple" week. I don't know what this kid touched, but it gave him the slimiest rash ever. It kind of reminds me of the blob.

This piece didn't turn out quite the way I hoped- there's a few errors and a couple of changes I think I'd make if I had to do this again, but... whatever. It's done for now. Enjoy!

Misery

Sorry again for the late post, but here's my picture for last week!

Misery encompasses many things, not the least of which is a crappy relationship. For me, this picture is a portrait of girlfriends past. Enjoy!

Sumo Demitasse

OK, this is both late and not my best work, so please forgive. This is the demitasse machine- a giant steam-powered coffee pot for the Hotel Je Nesais Quoi. What other nefarious secrets does it hold?

Dang!

Here's my wooden robot. I'm not very happy with it, but oh well.

week4 - woodenRobot

Tracker

This was my first time trying to paint and draw with a tablet. It was fun but a pain at the same time. Any advice on streamlining this learning process? Most of my time was spent just trying to sketch this thing.

Yee-haw! Zap! Zap!

PAPA YAGA

After starting the Papa Yaga I realized the only difference between my version and the original Biliban piece would be the beard, HAHA, so I stopped. But here he is, for process's sake.

Lady Vader...

Darth Vader has to be one of the baddest mother fuckers ever. Thus, making him one of my favorites. So here is the female version.

I also wanted to do one without the helmet...

My monkey scientist...

I did several different color versions, so I'll post all of them...

week1 - monkey scientist

it's an emperor tamarin. had i taken the time to color and light it, that may have been more clear.
